The FIA announced this week an important step forward for the future of the World Rally Championship, confirming that current Rally2 machinery will be able to compete in the main WRC category during the transition period to the new WRC27 regulations, through the use of a specific homologated technical kit.

 

The measure will allow Rally2 machinery equipped with the so-called “Rally2-WRC Kit” to compete at the highest global level during the 2027 and 2028 seasons, contributing to increased competitor diversity and strengthening the sport's competitiveness.

 

At the Rally Series, this vision has always been present since the inception of the series. The Series' Annual Regulations have, since the very first edition, provided for the participation of Rally1 machinery, demonstrating a philosophy open to technical diversity and the integration of different types of vehicles in competition.

 

Beyond that, the Rally Series was developed with a compact and efficient format, significantly reducing participation costs for drivers and teams. This approach creates the right conditions for more competitors to compete with top-spec machinery, including Rally1 and Rally2, in a competitive, promotional, and financially more sustainable environment.

 

The decision now taken by the FIA also demonstrates a growing focus on the sustainability and accessibility of motorsport, allowing more teams and manufacturers to be present in world rallying's premier category.
